San Clemente Downtown Business Association and Assisteens of Capistrano Valley Join Efforts to Donate Gift Cards to San Clemente unemployed workers in need.
The San Clemente Downtown Business Association and Assisteens of Capistrano Valley recently launched an initiative to provide gift cards purchased from local downtown San Clemente restaurants to give to workers who have lost their jobs from San Clemente small businesses due to COVID-19.
Assisteens, the youth arm of the Assistance League of Capistrano Valley, makes annual donations to support community needs. Its membership, representing San Clemente and other nearby cities, is made up of approximately 90 young women, grades eight to twelve. The organization has committed $3,000 in gift cards to be donated. The teens have also assisted in grocery shopping for at risk members of the community and providing donations to San Clemente’s Senior Center.
San Clemente Downtown Business Association Chair, Chris Aitken, commented: “We are very grateful to the Assisteens in providing such a generous gift for San Clemente unemployed workers in need. We are proud to use such funds to support our downtown San Clemente economy by purchasing restaurant gift cards from our members to support those who have unfortunately lost their position during this challenging time.”
The San Clemente Downtown Business Association has several members that are restaurants serving takeout and selling groceries in response to the state’s shutdown orders. Knowing that its members are partially open or fully shuttered as a result of COVID-19, the group is offering the gift cards to its members’ employees who haven’t been able to work.
The first round of gift cards will come from the DBA’s members, but those who launched the program hope that others in the community will join the effort to support our San Clemente community.
